Spiritual Checkup

New Seeds Of Contemplation
Thomas Merton
Here is a book a group of friends and I are reviewing in weekly discussions. I have been a Merton fan for a few years, and have gone so far as to spend some time at The Abbey Of Gethsemani in Kentucky where Merton spent most of His life as Cistercian Monk.

This collection of thoughts...'seeds'...is truly a provocative volume...not intended to finish in a weekend...or as a vacation companion. You will want to keep this book handy as a stimulus for your personal spiritual growth...for self examination...and for meditation. If you've never read Merton, you may want to begin with "The Seven Storied Mountain", which better lends some insights into Merton's life and times, and lays some groundwork for His later reflections and writings.

If you are interested in the contemplative lifestyle, you can arrange a visit to Gethsemani for weekends and week long stays.
